A Birthday Ode for Lily Baggins
AN: This silly little poem was written in January 2003 as a birthday present for Lily Baggins, one of the sweetest people in the LOTR fandom, and a great writer. Lily wrote the first interspecies story I ever read, "Echo of the Gladden Fields", which still stands as one of the very best of the genre.

Aragorn, Aragorn, you surely jest -
Just lay by yourself and take some rest,
You’re not yourself, that much is plain
Perhaps you have a fever, got caught in the rain?
Frodo, Frodo, I yearn for you -
Don’t look away, you know it is true;
I have longed for your touch for what seems an age,
Let’s begin our life’s history and start with this page.
Aragorn, Aragorn, you are a man,
I am a hobbit, it’s not a good plan
To mix up the species as is your wish -
I’ll just clear away now and lick out this dish.
Frodo, Frodo, put down that damned bowl
And snuggle in my arms, you’re not in your hole!
You’re here in Minas Tirith, and here is the thing -
I need your sweet loving and the joy it will bring.
Aragorn, Aragorn, don’t think me cold hearted,
But I think it is time that you and I parted.
You fancy you love me, perhaps it is so,
Or maybe it’s the wine and candle’s soft glow.
Frodo, Frodo, desist from your prattle!
I want you for my lover, not some meaningless chattel,
Just allow me one kiss, one simple connection,
Then leave me forever if that’s your intention.
Aragorn, Aragorn, if it will make you see sense -
Then by all means join lips and let’s end this pretence!
For if a kiss will convince you that we cannot be,
Then on with the kissing and then forget about me.

Frodo, Frodo, the fire has died,
The candle has gone out and the sun can be spied.
We have passed all the evening in just that one kiss
We should dress quickly, before it’s taken amiss.
Aragorn, Aragorn, don’t move a muscle
Unless it’s to join me in one more mad tussle.
You have taught me so well, man I adore,
But I need one more lesson just to be sure.
Frodo, Frodo, my lips are quite sore
And much as I want to, I can kiss you no more!
Please let me go dearest, I have a kingdom to run
I swear I will return with the setting of the sun.
Aragorn, Aragorn, go if you must,
I will try to control my newly found lust...
And not bat my eyes at your captains and guards
As we idle the time away playing at cards...
Frodo, Frodo, I think I will stay
And keep you company the rest of the day.
Just give me an hour to recover my strength,
But please keep your hands away from my...
The End
